Bernard Dowd, DVM
Dr. Dowd grew up on a fifteen-acre farm with a half-mile dirt racetrack in Monmouth County, New Jersey. His father owned, bred, foaled, broke and raced thoroughbred racehorses. Having had the opportunity to be intimately involved in the horseracing environment, he developed a keen appreciation for veterinary medicine. Dr. Dowd believes veterinary medicine, integrated and properly utilized in horse racing, can increase the quality of life for the equine athlete while simultaneously achieving the expectations of the client.
Dr. Dowd obtained a BS in animal husbandry from Delaware Valley College in 1981 and received his veterinary degree in 1985 from Ross University. Bernard is a partner in North Atlantic Equine Associates in Oceanport, New Jersey. The majority of the year his time is spent at beautiful Monmouth Park Racetrack on the Jersey shore. When Monmouth Park isn’t running, you can find him on the backstretch of Belmont Park NY or Parx Racecourse PA.
